During Part 5 I revisited painting my husband, as the last painting I made of him in colour, didn’t tonally quite work. Although, the curtains in my living room are burgundy, in the painting they look too blockly, taking away too much focus from the reclining figure. So, I decided to try a different composition, a pose my husband felt comfortable in, on A2 paper I chose to keep it a simple monochrome piece. I popped this painting in along with my work for Assignment 5 and had encouraging feedback from my tutor. He noted he liked the expressive marks in contrast to the detail, the pose looked natural (something that I am pleased he picked up on) and the effective use of paper left untouched, which adds to the overall balance of the painting.
